The obligatory black and white photos of massive lobsters, some seafood shanty style kitsch that is appropriate and plastic utensils. The people who worked there were nice and there were no complaints, but not enough service to score it.ĭecor/Atmosphere: Seth 7 Ren 6.5 It’s sort of what you’re hoping for in a place like this. Service: N/A As this was an “eat in the rough” style place, you order at the front and it’s brought to you. My Favorite Thing: The lobster!Īve Price/Person: $25-35 w/ Drinks: $35-45įood: Seth 7.5 Ren 7 Food Ave: 7.25 Great fresh seafood at prices you would expect. (Not to mention it had been nearly a year since I last dined on lobster….what a crime!) I also enjoyed their meaty fried clams and calamari Though I did find their crab to be a little stringy and not very flavorful. It really demands a substantial time commitment in which you can spend socializing, drinking your beer, and just getting a bit messy. One of my favorite things about a meal like this is the time it takes to crack open the lobster in order to extract the delicious morsels. One and one-quarter pounds of tender lobster meat dipped in warm melted butter washed down by a tall cold frothy Sam Seasonal draft…life just doesn’t get any better. It also immediately appealed to my New England nature: an abounding love for a fresh seafood feast. It is located right near a pier and out-of-the-way of regular traffic, which really gives it that fresh caught feel. Ren: The restaurant’s atmosphere, while nothing special, really suites the food it serves. This was all washed down with Sam Adams Winter Lager, which is my favorite seasonal beer by that brewery, and also just my second time finding it this season. By the end I was almost a little too full. Hammer smashing, juices splashing and tender meat butter dipped galore. The weak of heart at this point may have felt that an additional bucket of crab was a lot of food, but for the sake of the blog we pushed on. Plenty of melted butter for dipping of course. The coleslaw was fresh and bright the fries were fries but good, and the lobster was great. Next I split the 1 1/4 lb lobster dinner that came with fries and coleslaw. One of our guests thought they were a little heavy on the breading and I guess this can vary to preference. We got the full belly clams, which I prefer, and they were as delicious as I hoped for. The cakes were moist and full of meat and came with a nice chipotle aioli for dipping. We started with the crab cakes and fried calamari. This time I was able to make it back here to actually sit down and eat. That night my husband had terrible indigestion and I had a very bad case of disappointment.Seth: Months ago, when I was searching for some fresh live seafood to cook at home, this is where I was led. We were eating at the Yankee LOBSTER market, after all. It was so disappointing that when I asked what what else we should get to round out our meal, we were not told "lobster". Clearly everything was fresh and would have been delicious but all I tasted was "fry". He did but was not able to identify the fish, plus he told us there was fried lobster on the plate - there was not. When it did, everything looked the same -fried!!!! I asked the server to give us a tour of the plate. Based on the chowder, I could not wait for our platter to arrive. It was so good, that my knees would have buckled. Good think that we were sitting when we tasted it. We ordered the clam chowder, just to be sure. I agreed and asked what it was missing that i should order a la cart. When our turn came I asked what we should order that would allow us the best of what they have to offer. The fresh fish in the case looked delicious and the kids behind the counter could not have been sweeter. We felt so smug walking past Legal Seafood to our treasure find. I did a ton of research and the Yankee Lobster Fish MArket was perfect, a dive with amazing food. This was the first place that we went to eat on our trip to Boston.
